Hot buttered sardines on toast
A traditional recipe
To be served hot, these sardines in churned butter with a hint of lemon offer a modern version of a traditional recipe.
Before heating them, run the tin under warm water to melt the butter. Empty the contents of the tin into a frying pan over and warm over very gentle heat to preserve the soft texture of the flesh.
Run the tin under hot water to remove the contents more easily.
These sardines can be heated:
- In a frying pan: 3 to 4 minutes, turning from time to time, over very low heat to preserve the soft texture of the flesh
- In the microwave: approximately 1 minute at 500W.
- In the oven: preheat to 180 °C and heat for about 7 minutes in a dish, or 10 minutes wrapped in parchment paper.
Sardines (70%), churned butter (milk) (26.5%), lemon juice (2.3%), salt.
