Eating vegetables for good health

A healthy diet entails striking a good balance between plant and animal intake.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends eating 400 grams of vegetables a day, excluding potatoes, and halving the consumption of animal proteins – meat in particular, by replacing them with plant ones.

Ultimately, this means eating vegetables at every meal and paying particular attention to those high in protein.

Vegetables contain few calories, have antioxidants, and are high in vitamins, fibres and minerals. They are formidable allies for good health and feeling in great shape. They can aid the body against premature ageing and all sorts of illnesses, including obesity, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.*

Innovating to balance your meals

At la belle-iloise, we are convinced you need to eat well to live better. The way we see it, that means having meals with varied nutrient intakes and combining products from the sea with plant ones.

We create recipes and have been using vegetables for a long time, adding a bit of plant goodness to most of our tinned fish. For the last 15 years, we have even diversified our range of goods with products that are 50% fish and 50% vegetables: our delicious sandwich fillings, salad preparations, spoonfuls and soups.

Today we are going even further: launching a 100% plant-based range.

Offering our customers a 100% plant-based range of goods

Although we have been a fish canning business for 90 years, la belle-iloise has now developed this new 100% plant-based range. The aim is not to divest ourselves of the marine world but to offer everyone the possibility of mixing things up according to the day’s tastes and moods.

Whether cold soups, little dishes or tartares, we make our products exclusively with vegetables, full of vegetable proteins, thanks to the amazing seaweed in Brittany. Seaweed is fantastic for your health: we include it in all recipes in this range because of its nutrients.

Here are the four products in our 100% plant-based range:

- Indian veggie: a complete dish with a guaranteed source of proteins from sea spaghetti and pulses (chickpeas, mung beans, black beans)

- Brittany seaweed and olive tartare: packed full of super seaweed in the form of kombu royal and wakame seaweed

- La Rouge cold soup: a new take on gazpacho with dulse and kombu royal

- La Verte cold soup: a flavour-packed soup of green vegetables combined with wakame and kombu royal

Important Note

As a player in the food system, keen to provide everyone with high-quality products, we want to raise awareness of the need for healthier, more varied and more sustainable food. Eating vegetables daily plays its part according to data and interpretations published by ANSES, WHO and FAO.*

However, the information we provide is not intended to be medical advice. Moreover, a virtuous diet means nothing without suitable physical exercise. And the message of the French programme on nutrition and health (PNNS) is just that: “Eat better, move more.”

If you have any questions about your health, please contact a doctor or therapist.
