Every company that produces foodstuffs is responsible for the safety of its products and consumer well-being. No matter how big or small or which products it processes. As the consumption of unsafe foods can have serious ramifications, nowadays, companies are taking heed of their responsibilities

The ISO 22000 standard came into force against this backdrop in 2005 and was then updated in 2018. It is the only international standard that is fully transparent about food safety and founded on universally known principles that are key to guaranteeing this safety.

La belle-iloise has been making and distributing tinned fish since 1932, and it is very exacting: its products must be of impeccable quality. The company balances tradition and innovation, preserving its know-how within a modern framework.

We needed three years of work and a great deal of willingness from all la belle-iloise’s teams to obtain the ISO 22000 certification at the end of 2019.

But what does ISO certification mean exactly?

“Everything that enters and leaves our cannery, from the purchase of raw materials to the manufacture of tins, must meet these standards. It’s a seal of approval of sorts to indicate that all our products are 100% safe.” Caroline Hilliet Le Branchu, CEO of la belle-iloise

ISO 22000 certification is a gold standard recognised the world over. Only 140 French companies have secured it. With this certification, we can offer healthy and safe products, secure our raw materials and packaging purchases, and set up a quality system with all our suppliers.

For la belle-iloise, obtaining this certification is just the first stepping stone. The certification is valid for three years, but every year the French standardisation organisation AFNOR checks that good practices have been applied.

As such, we keep moving forward, always in the spirit of doing things right and with the highest standards of quality in mind. We remain fully committed to renewing our certification commitments.
